KANSAS CITY, Mo. - As the unemployment rate climbs more and more metro families face foreclosure.

Stephanie Zamora recently lost her job in real estate. She’s afraid of losing her home.

“I couldn't make the payments. I had to stop making the payments,”

Zamora decided participate in foreclosure counseling sponsored by Communities Creating Opportunity, a faith based organization. They partnered with Bank of America and her mortgage lender Countrywide.

The event was held at St. Therese Little Flower.

“We don't want people to lose their homes. We believe in people owning homes. There are possibilities that people have, if they will take advantage of opportunities like this,” says Father Ernie Davis who is a member of CCO.

Counselors advise homeowners to consider different ways of making money like garage sales or baby-sitting.

The non-profit neighborhood housing services says more than 50 percent of people facing foreclosure don't talk to their lenders and that's a mistake.
